“Musings from the Orchid World

Brendan Sayers, Ireland’s foremost authority on orchids will present on a selection of orchid topics which promises to be entertaining as well as educational. The talk will be followed by a sale of Pleiones at bargain prices to members. All proceeds will go to the society funds.

Monday, March 5th –7pm

“Wildlife on your Doorstep: The Bigger Picture”

Stuart Dunlop is a passionate naturalist and photographer living in Donegal. Stuart will give us an illustrated talk on the diversity of Irish wildlife and orchids will get a mention!

April – 21st & 22nd

National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin Orchid Fair

This annual event organized by National Botanic Gardens is perhaps the “Jewel in the Crown” of the Irish orchid growers’ year. Once again our friends from Burnham’s and David Stead Nurseries in the UK will participate offering a diverse selection of plants for sale. The Irish Orchid Society encourages members to bring plants for exhibition and judging for our traditional competition. If you wish to enter plants for the competition make sure they are on display before midday on the Saturday. There will also be a raffle open to the public. Admission Free

Monday, May 14th –7pm

Orchid Deflasking Workshop

A variety of orchid seedlings growing in flasks will be “deflasked” and potted up. Members will be offered free plantlets and set the challenge of growing them successfully!

Monday, June 11th –7pm

Annual General Meeting

Members will be given the opportunity to give feedback on all aspects of the society and the chairman, Shane Kerr will address the society.
