Welcome to the Irish Orchid Society

Our Society is a collection of individuals each with their own great qualities. Generosity is a trait that is shared among many and a plant, division or keiki passed on is a lasting legacy to that generosity. The plants may also become a reminder when a journey in this life ends. Flowering today in my home is Epidendrum capricornu, a plant I received from Mark. Mark was a knowledgeable member, an accomplished grower and generous, not only with his plants but also his knowledge. The latter was delivered in a humble and encouraging way.

  1. Mark was a gentle, quiet, self-effacing and generous person with never a bad comment to say about anybody or anything. He brought much joy to us especially at those wonderful spring orchid fairs at Glasnevin when few could compete with floral displays.
We all were indebted to have shared his presence and to have learned from him as an orchid aficionado and in his demeanour.
    Rest in peace. Shane Kerr
